The total production indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -8.3% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the production volume increased by 31% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in ASEAN
For the tenth year in a row, ASEAN recorded growth in overseas shipments of industrial fatty alcohols, which increased by 8.6% to X tons in 2021. Total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +121.7% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, industrial fatty alcohols exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed buoyant growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Indonesia was the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which accounted for 57% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons), generating a 34% share of total exports. Thailand (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by the Philippines (with a CAGR of +29.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Indonesia ($X), Malaysia ($X) and the Philippines ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 94% of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +29.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, growing by 54% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Singapore ($X per ton) and the Philippines ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) and Thailand ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (-0.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Industrial Fatty Alcohols Imports
Imports in ASEAN
In 2021, industrial fatty alcohols imports in ASEAN fell dramatically to X tons, waning by -15.6% on the year before. Total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +15.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, industrial fatty alcohols imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +67.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 45%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Singapore represented the main importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at 60% of total imports. Thailand (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 18% share, followed by Indonesia (11%) and Malaysia (7%). The Philippines (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Singapore increased at an average annual rate of +8.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Malaysia (+27.7%), the Philippines (+8.5%), Indonesia (+4.3%) and Thailand (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Malaysia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +27.7% from 2012-2021. Singapore (+7.1 p.p.) and Malaysia (+5.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Indonesia and Thailand saw its share reduced by -3.1% and -9.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Singapore ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported industrial fatty alcohols in ASEAN, comprising 60% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 12% share.
In Singapore, industrial fatty alcohols imports expanded at an average annual rate of +9.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Thailand (+2.0% per year) and Indonesia (+4.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern.
