In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of instruments and apparatus for measuring or checking pressure of liquids or gasses, when their volume decreased by -16.9% to X units. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 42%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, test and measurement exports shrank modestly to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 21% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Malaysia (X units) and Singapore (X units) were the largest exporters of instruments and apparatus for measuring or checking pressure of liquids or gasses in 2021, accounting for near 42% and 33% of total exports, respectively. Vietnam (X units) held the next position in the ranking, distantly followed by Thailand (X units). All these countries together held near 25% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +23.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest test and measurement supplying countries in ASEAN were Singapore ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Vietnam ($X), with a combined 93% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Thailand, which accounted for a further 4%.

Thailand, with a CAGR of +13.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 16% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per unit), while Vietnam ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+5.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in ASEAN

In 2021, test and measurement imports in ASEAN surged to X units, jumping by 33% on 2020. Over the period under review, imports posted resilient growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, test and measurement imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +55.9% against 2016 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Thailand (X units), Singapore (X units) and Vietnam (X units) represented the key importer of instruments and apparatus for measuring or checking pressure of liquids or gasses in ASEAN, achieving 83% of total import. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X units), committing an 11% share of total imports. Indonesia (X units) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +33.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported instruments and apparatus for measuring or checking pressure of liquids or gasses in ASEAN, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with an 11% share.

In Singapore, test and measurement imports increased at an average annual rate of +11.3% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Thailand (-0.9% per year) and Malaysia (+3.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, waning by -8.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 19%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per unit), while Vietnam ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
