Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then contracted modestly in the following year.
Paper Label Production in ASEAN
In value terms, paper label production declined to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2020, and then contracted slightly in the following year.

Paper label exports skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, increasing by 20% on the previous year. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, paper label exports surged to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Vietnam represented the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which reached 39% of total exports. Singapore (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Thailand (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 59% share of total exports. The Philippines (X tons) took a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +21.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest paper label supplying countries in ASEAN were Vietnam ($X), Singapore ($X) and Malaysia ($X), together comprising 81% of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +19.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, flattening at the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by 32% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+5.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in ASEAN
In 2021, the amount of labels of paper or paperboard imported in ASEAN skyrocketed to X tons, rising by 36% on the year before. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +76.5% against 2013 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Vietnam represented the key importer of labels of paper or paperboard in ASEAN, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 38% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Indonesia (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Cambodia (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Myanmar (X tons), together committing a 53% share of total imports. The Philippines (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Vietnam increased at an average annual rate of +14.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Myanmar (+15.3%), Cambodia (+13.6%), Thailand (+11.1%), the Philippines (+3.4%) and Indonesia (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Myanmar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +15.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Malaysia (-3.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Vietnam (+17 p.p.), Cambodia (+5.1 p.p.), Thailand (+3.5 p.p.) and Myanmar (+2.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of the Philippines (-1.6 p.p.), Indonesia (-10.1 p.p.) and Malaysia (-13.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Vietnam ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported labels of paper or paperboard in ASEAN, comprising 36% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Cambodia ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 14% share.
In Vietnam, paper label imports increased at an average annual rate of +10.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Cambodia (+12.5% per year) and Indonesia (-2.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -9.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
