In 2022, overseas shipments of lamp holders, plugs and sockets decreased by -34.1% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, saw perceptible growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 71%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then shrank markedly in the following year.
In value terms, lamp holder exports fell significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a tangible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 43%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
Exports by Country
The biggest shipments were from Thailand (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons), together amounting to 88% of total export. It was distantly followed by Singapore (X tons), making up a 7.7% share of total exports. Indonesia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Thailand (with a CAGR of +31.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Malaysia ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Thailand ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 84% of total exports.
Vietnam, with a CAGR of +19.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, waning by -1.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 44%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+7.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in ASEAN
In 2022, the amount of lamp holders, plugs and sockets imported in ASEAN declined modestly to X tons, falling by -1.9% compared with 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 93% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then dropped slightly in the following year.
In value terms, lamp holder imports fell markedly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +48.4% against 2013 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 19%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then fell notably in the following year.
Imports by Country
Malaysia was the main importer of lamp holders, plugs and sockets in ASEAN, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 56% of total imports in 2022. The Philippines (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 13% share, followed by Indonesia (12%), Vietnam (8.2%) and Thailand (5.3%). Singapore (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
Malaysia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the lamp holders, plugs and sockets imports, with a CAGR of +27.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the Philippines (+19.0%), Vietnam (+17.3%) and Indonesia (+11.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Thailand (-1.3%) and Singapore (-6.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Malaysia (+38 p.p.), the Philippines (+4.8 p.p.) and Vietnam (+2.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore saw its share reduced by -2.5%, -16.9% and -24.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Vietnam ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Singapore ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 71% share of total imports. Thailand, the Philippines and Indonesia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.
The Philippines, with a CAGR of +19.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -13.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 30%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
