Lime Market Size in ASEAN

The ASEAN lime market totaled $X in 2021, surging by 2.1% against the previous year. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a noticeable contraction. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, lime production rose to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a mild descent. In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of lime, when their volume increased by 9.4% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, lime exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Malaysia (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) were the main exporters of lime in ASEAN, together accounting for near 76% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X tons), comprising a 21% share of total exports. Singapore (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Malaysia (with a CAGR of +5.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, the largest lime supplying countries in ASEAN were Vietnam ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Thailand ($X), together accounting for 97% of total exports.

Malaysia, with a CAGR of +4.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, surging by 5.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the export price increased by 23% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Vietnam ($X per ton) and Malaysia ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) and Singapore ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+4.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Lime Imports

Imports in ASEAN

In 2021, purchases abroad of lime was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 19%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Indonesia was the main importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at 42% of total imports. The Philippines (X tons) held a 24% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Singapore (23%). Malaysia (X tons), Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) and Cambodia (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Cambodia (with a CAGR of +33.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Indonesia ($X), Singapore ($X) and the Philippines ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 89% of total imports. These countries were followed by Malaysia, Cambodia and Lao People's Democratic Republic, which together accounted for a further 9.5%.

Among the main importing countries, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +39.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 18% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
