The ASEAN bitumen mixer market dropped modestly to $X in 2021, shrinking by -3.4% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, saw prominent growth. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, bitumen mixer exports in ASEAN skyrocketed to X units, with an increase of 27% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 379% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Malaysia decreased at an average annual rate of -12.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Thailand (+39.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, Malaysia ($X) remains the largest bitumen mixer supplier in ASEAN, comprising 80% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Singapore ($X), with a 19% share of total exports.

In Malaysia, bitumen mixer exports contracted by an average annual rate of -5.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Singapore (-15.6% per year) and Thailand (-11.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 17% against the previous year. In general, the export price enjoyed pronounced growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 184%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per unit), while Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+8.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of machines for mixing mineral substances with bitumen decreased by -58.2% to X units, falling for the fourth consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports showed a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 133%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, bitumen mixer imports rose slightly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, posted mild growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 295% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

The Philippines represented the main importer of machines for mixing mineral substances with bitumen in ASEAN, with the volume of imports finishing at X units, which was approx. 36% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Myanmar (X units), Singapore (X units), Thailand (X units), Cambodia (X units) and Malaysia (X units), together creating a 53% share of total imports. Vietnam (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Malaysia (with a CAGR of +7.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest bitumen mixer importing markets in ASEAN were Thailand ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Malaysia ($X), with a combined 70% share of total imports. Cambodia, the Philippines, Myanmar and Singapore lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 11%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +17.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per unit in 2021, jumping by 143% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 321%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
