The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 35% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Indonesia.
From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Indonesia amounted to -0.5% per year.

Imports in ASEAN
After four years of growth, supplies from abroad of maize (corn) starch decreased by -18.5% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 119%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, maize starch imports reduced slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 142%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020, and then declined in the following year.
Imports by Country
Malaysia (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) represented roughly 69% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the Philippines (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Thailand (X tons), together creating a 29% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +28.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Malaysia ($X), Indonesia ($X) and the Philippines ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 79% share of total imports. Vietnam and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 19%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +29.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a slight slump. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+4.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
