Maltodextrine Market Size in ASEAN

In 2021, the ASEAN maltodextrine market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, consumption, however, showed a slight setback. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, maltodextrine production fell to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 21%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Maltodextrine Exports

Exports in ASEAN

In 2021, overseas shipments of maltodextrine and maltodextine syrup decreased by -8.9% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 191%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, maltodextrine exports reached $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 90% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Thailand was the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which accounted for 76% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons), together constituting a 20% share of total exports. Vietnam (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to maltodextrine exports from Thailand stood at +45.6%. At the same time, Vietnam (+52.1%), Malaysia (+16.0%) and Indonesia (+15.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +52.1% from 2012-2021. Thailand (+46 p.p.) and Vietnam (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Indonesia and Malaysia saw its share reduced by -15.3% and -27.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest maltodextrine supplier in ASEAN, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Indonesia ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 17% share.

In Thailand, maltodextrine exports expanded at an average annual rate of +31.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Indonesia (+17.5% per year) and Malaysia (+13.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a abrupt curtailment. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+7.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Maltodextrine Imports

Imports in ASEAN

In 2021, maltodextrine imports in ASEAN totaled X tons, increasing by 6.8% against 2020 figures. Overall, imports enjoyed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 79%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, maltodextrine imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +51.0% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 40%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Indonesia (X tons), distantly followed by the Philippines (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) were the largest importers of maltodextrine and maltodextine syrup, together constituting 97% of total imports. Myanmar (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of +12.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Indonesia ($X), the Philippines ($X) and Thailand ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 58% share of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Indonesia, with a CAGR of +10.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the import price increased by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+4.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
