The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 86%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, medicaments containing penicillin exports shrank notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 138%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Indonesia was the major exporter of medicaments containing penicillins or derivatives thereof in ASEAN, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was near 49% of total exports in 2021. Thailand (X tons) held a 30% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Vietnam (17%). Malaysia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of +20.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X) remains the largest medicaments containing penicillin supplier in ASEAN, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 7% share.

In Vietnam, medicaments containing penicillin exports expanded at an average annual rate of +18.5% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Thailand (+16.7% per year) and Indonesia (+7.2% per year).

The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -20.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a tangible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 169% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+5.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of medicaments containing penicillins or derivatives thereof decreased by -1.3% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 185%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

In value terms, medicaments containing penicillin imports fell to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 122% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Indonesia (X tons) represented the key importer of medicaments containing penicillins or derivatives thereof, committing 72% of total imports. Thailand (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by the Philippines (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 27% share of total imports.

Indonesia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the medicaments containing penicillins or derivatives thereof imports, with a CAGR of +59.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Thailand (+12.0%) and Vietnam (+11.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, the Philippines (-2.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In 2021, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -6.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the import price increased by 87% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+0.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
