In 2022, the ASEAN market for non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk increased by 19% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. The total consumption indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +74.6% against 2020 indices. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Production of Non-Alcoholic Beverages, Not Containing Milk in ASEAN
In value terms, non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk production expanded notably to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. The level of production peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports in ASEAN
In 2022, shipments abroad of non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk decreased by -42.2% to X litres, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 41%. The volume of export peaked at X litres in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk exports declined rapidly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -37.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Thailand represented the major exporter of non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk in ASEAN, with the volume of exports resulting at X litres, which was approx. 55% of total exports in 2022. Lao People's Democratic Republic (X litres) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 17% share, followed by Malaysia (13%), Singapore (6.1%) and Vietnam (6.1%). Indonesia (X litres) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Thailand increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Lao People's Democratic Republic (+26.9%), Vietnam (+14.3%), Indonesia (+3.6%) and Singapore (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lao People's Democratic Republic emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +26.9% from 2012-2022. Malaysia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Lao People's Democratic Republic (+15 p.p.) and Vietnam (+3.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Thailand (-1.6 p.p.), Singapore (-2.9 p.p.) and Malaysia (-11.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk supplier in ASEAN, comprising 55% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Thailand totaled +2.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Lao People's Democratic Republic (+21.1% per year) and Malaysia (-1.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per litre, with an increase of 8.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a mild reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 36% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per litre in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per litre), while Malaysia ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+2.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Non-Alcoholic Beverages, Not Containing Milk
Imports in ASEAN
In 2022, the amount of non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk imported in ASEAN contracted slightly to X litres, falling by -1.6% compared with 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 48% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X litres in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk imports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 52% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Cambodia (X litres) represented the main importer of non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk, making up 39% of total imports. Singapore (X litres) took a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the Philippines (15%), Lao People's Democratic Republic (9.7%) and Vietnam (8%). Brunei Darussalam (X litres) and Malaysia (X litres) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Cambodia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk imports, with a CAGR of +34.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the Philippines (+27.3%), Vietnam (+22.9%), Lao People's Democratic Republic (+5.2%), Brunei Darussalam (+4.4%) and Singapore (+4.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Malaysia (-8.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Cambodia (+34 p.p.), the Philippines (+11 p.p.) and Vietnam (+5.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Brunei Darussalam, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Malaysia and Singapore saw its share reduced by -2.2%, -6.1%, -11.8% and -15.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Cambodia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk in ASEAN, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 14% share.
In Cambodia, non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk imports expanded at an average annual rate of +45.0% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Vietnam (+29.7% per year) and Singapore (+3.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per litre in 2022, increasing by 14% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per litre), while Singapore ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cambodia (+8.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
