For the sixth year in a row, ASEAN recorded growth in overseas shipments of non-alloy aluminium bars, rods and profiles, which increased by 44% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports recorded resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 46%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, non-alloy aluminium bar exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a prominent increase. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
The Philippines (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together constituting 84% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Indonesia (X tons), comprising a 6.5% share of total exports. Singapore (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Indonesia (with a CAGR of +30.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Philippines ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Indonesia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 86% of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, Indonesia, with a CAGR of +25.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, surging by 7.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 9.5%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+3.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in ASEAN
In 2021, supplies from abroad of non-alloy aluminium bars, rods and profiles was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-alloy aluminium bar imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the six major importers of non-alloy aluminium bars, rods and profiles, namely Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and Cambodia, represented more than two-thirds of total import. The Philippines (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Myanmar (X tons). All these countries together held near 10% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Cambodia (with a CAGR of +17.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest non-alloy aluminium bar importing markets in ASEAN were Vietnam ($X), Thailand ($X) and Singapore ($X), with a combined 57% share of total imports. Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, the Philippines and Myanmar lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 42%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +20.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 13% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+4.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
