Total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +26.3% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 49%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

In value terms, non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified exports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 45%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Exports by Country

Thailand was the major exporter of non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified in ASEAN, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 59% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons), committing a 38% share of total exports. Malaysia (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +8.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified supplier in ASEAN, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($X), with a 22% share of total exports.

In Thailand, non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified exports increased at an average annual rate of +21.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Vietnam (+8.5% per year) and Malaysia (+6.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -10.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the export price increased by 34%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+16.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in ASEAN

In 2022, purchases abroad of non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified decreased by -42.1% to X tons, falling for the fifth consecutive year after four years of growth. In general, imports showed a perceptible setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 68%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified imports shrank rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 81% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Vietnam (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) was the major importer of non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified in ASEAN, comprising 61% of total import. Thailand (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Myanmar (11%), Brunei Darussalam (7.3%) and Malaysia (4.9%).

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Myanmar (with a CAGR of +43.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Indonesia ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Singapore ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 75% share of total imports. Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia and Myanmar lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 19%.

Myanmar, with a CAGR of +12.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. Import price indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified import price decreased by -23.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 32%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
