The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 15% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Vietnam (X units) and Thailand (X units) represented roughly 76% of total exports in 2021. Singapore (X units) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 16% share, followed by Malaysia (5.1%). Indonesia (X units) took a minor share of total exports.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 16%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per unit), while Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+12.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in ASEAN

In 2021, supplies from abroad of non-electronic instruments for measuring or checking variables of liquids or gases was finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 33%. Indonesia represented the major importer of non-electronic instruments for measuring or checking variables of liquids or gases in ASEAN, with the volume of imports finishing at X units, which was near 56% of total imports in 2021. Thailand (X units) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Vietnam (X units), Singapore (X units), Malaysia (X units) and the Philippines (X units). The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest non-electronic liquid or gas measurer importing markets in ASEAN were Indonesia ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Thailand ($X), with a combined 67% share of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +22.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, rising by 7.8% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 29%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit.
