In 2021, approx. X units of non-hydraulic presses for working metal were exported in ASEAN; declining by -3.7% compared with 2020 figures. Overall, exports, however, showed a noticeable expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 141% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, non-hydraulic press exports declined sharply to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 136% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Singapore dominates exports structure, resulting at X units, which was approx. 77% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X units), constituting an 8.9% share of total exports. The following exporters - Indonesia (X units), Vietnam (X units), the Philippines (X units) and Thailand (X units) - together made up 14% of total exports.

Exports from Singapore increased at an average annual rate of +14.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Thailand (+15.7%) and Indonesia (+7.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +15.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Vietnam (-4.6%), Malaysia (-9.5%) and the Philippines (-18.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Singapore (+47 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines saw its share reduced by -4.3%, -20.4% and -24.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest non-hydraulic press supplying countries in ASEAN were Vietnam ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Singapore ($X), together comprising 77% of total exports. These countries were followed by Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines, which together accounted for a further 23%.

Indonesia, with a CAGR of +3.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, declining by -56.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the export price increased by 52%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per unit), while Singapore ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+4.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, overseas purchases of non-hydraulic presses for working metal were finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports enjoyed a buoyant expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, non-hydraulic press imports shrank slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. Imports by Country

The purchases of the three major importers of non-hydraulic presses for working metal, namely the Philippines, Singapore and Malaysia, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Vietnam (X units) held the next position in the ranking, distantly followed by Thailand (X units). All these countries together took approx. 20% share of total imports. Cambodia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Cambodia (with a CAGR of +43.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X), Thailand ($X) and Malaysia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 78% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the Philippines, Singapore and Cambodia, which together accounted for a further 14%.

Among the main importing countries, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +34.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -34.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price faced a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 5.4%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per unit), while Singapore ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
