Non-Medical X-Ray Market Size in ASEAN

After three years of growth, the ASEAN non-medical x-ray market decreased by -6.7% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption, however, posted a prominent expansion. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, non-medical x-ray production reduced notably to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, continues to indicate a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 111% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

After three years of decline, shipments abroad of non-medical x-rays increased by 19% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports showed pronounced growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 74%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-medical x-ray exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 53% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Malaysia was the largest exporter of non-medical x-rays in ASEAN, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near 88% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Singapore (X tons), generating an 11% share of total exports.

Exports from Malaysia increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Singapore (+23.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Singapore emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +23.0% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Singapore increased by +8.7 percentage points.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X) remains the largest non-medical x-ray supplier in ASEAN, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Singapore ($X), with a 27% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Malaysia amounted to +6.9%.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 40%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Malaysia amounted to $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+3.3%).

Imports in ASEAN

In 2021, the amount of non-medical x-rays imported in ASEAN surged to X tons, with an increase of 18% on the previous year. Overall, imports recorded a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 46%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, non-medical x-ray imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +99.2% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Thailand (X tons), distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Singapore (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) represented the main importers of non-medical x-rays, together creating 97% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Singapore (with a CAGR of +14.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Thailand ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Malaysia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 66% of total imports.

Vietnam, with a CAGR of +15.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, approximately reflecting the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 13% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the Philippines ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+9.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
