The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

For the fifth consecutive year, ASEAN recorded growth in shipments abroad of non-soap washing and cleaning preparations, which increased by 88% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a strong expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, non-soap washing and cleaning preparations exports soared to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +80.4% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Indonesia prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 81% of total exports in 2022. Thailand (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Malaysia (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 11% share of total exports. Vietnam (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

Indonesia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the non-soap washing and cleaning preparations exports, with a CAGR of +29.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Vietnam (+5.7%), Malaysia (+4.7%) and Singapore (+3.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Thailand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Indonesia (+51 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Singapore (-6.2 p.p.), Vietnam (-7.3 p.p.), Malaysia (-10.6 p.p.) and Thailand (-22.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Indonesia ($X) remains the largest non-soap washing and cleaning preparations supplier in ASEAN, comprising 44% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 14% share.

In Indonesia, non-soap washing and cleaning preparations exports increased at an average annual rate of +15.2% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Thailand (+0.7% per year) and Singapore (+4.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 6% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+0.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in ASEAN

After ten years of growth, purchases abroad of non-soap washing and cleaning preparations decreased by -1.3% to X tons in 2022. Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +87.4% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 9%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, non-soap washing and cleaning preparations imports totaled $X in 2022. Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +68.9% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 13%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Malaysia (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), Cambodia (X tons), Myanmar (X tons) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) represented roughly 99% of total imports in 2022.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Myanmar (with a CAGR of +39.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest non-soap washing and cleaning preparations importing markets in ASEAN were Vietnam ($X), Malaysia ($X) and the Philippines ($X), with a combined 50% share of total imports. Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia, Lao People's Democratic Republic and Myanmar lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 49%.

Among the main importing countries, Myanmar, with a CAGR of +18.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, growing by 1.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the import price increased by 7.4%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
