The ASEAN other cereals market dropped to $X in 2021, which is down by -7.3% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Other Cereals Production in ASEAN
In value terms, other cereals production dropped to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +23.6% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2020, and then fell in the following year.
The country with the largest volume of other cereals production was Thailand (X tons), accounting for 83% of total volume. Moreover, other cereals production in Thailand exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons), sevenfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume in Thailand amounted to +1.3%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Lao People's Democratic Republic (+1.3% per year) and Myanmar (+1.6% per year).
In 2021, the average yield of other cerealses in ASEAN stood at X tons per ha, remaining stable against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, the yield, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 2.3%. The level of yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2021, the harvested area of other cerealses in ASEAN shrank modestly to X ha, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. The harvested area increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the harvested area increased by 8.6% against the previous year. As a result, the harvested area reached the peak level of X ha. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the other cereals harvested area remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in ASEAN
In 2021, shipments abroad of other cerealses decreased by -6% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports saw a slight decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 74% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, other cereals exports expanded modestly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 53%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) represented the key exporters of other cerealses in 2021, amounting to approx. 40% and 40% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Myanmar (X tons), making up a 17% share of total exports. Indonesia (X tons) took a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of +42.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest other cereals supplier in ASEAN, comprising 60% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Myanmar ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Lao People's Democratic Republic, with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Thailand stood at -3.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Myanmar (+5.5% per year) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (+5.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 11% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the export price increased by 21% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+5.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Other Cereals Imports
Imports in ASEAN
Other cereals imports dropped notably to X tons in 2021, with a decrease of -25.9% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports recorded a slight descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 64%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, other cereals imports reduced slightly to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -16.5% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 51%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Thailand (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) dominates imports structure, together constituting 83% of total imports. Malaysia (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Singapore (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 12% share of total imports. The following importers - Myanmar (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) - each reached a 3.6% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Vietnam (with a CAGR of +32.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest other cereals importing markets in ASEAN were Vietnam ($X), Thailand ($X) and Malaysia ($X), with a combined 76% share of total imports. Singapore, Myanmar and the Philippines lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.
In terms of the main importing countries, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +38.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 119% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Myanmar ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+11.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
