In value terms, Malaysia ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Singapore ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 90% of total exports. Thailand and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 10%.

Vietnam, with a CAGR of +42.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, rising by 4.8% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 51%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+4.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of oxides of boron, boric acids and inorganic acids decreased by -37% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 31%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, oxides of boron imports declined to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 25% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank in the following year.

In 2022, Malaysia (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) represented the largest importers of oxides of boron, boric acids and inorganic acids in ASEAN, together recording near 72% of total imports. Singapore (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Indonesia (5%). Vietnam (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by the Philippines (with a CAGR of +12.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In terms of the main importing countries, Thailand, with a CAGR of +9.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 43% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
