Cement Pipe Market Size in ASEAN
The ASEAN cement pipe market declined to $X in 2022, reducing by -4% against the previous year. In general, consumption showed a slight downturn. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.
Cement Pipe Production in ASEAN
In value terms, cement pipe production reduced slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production recorded a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the production volume increased by 20%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Cement Pipe Exports
Exports in ASEAN
In 2022, the amount of pipes and other articles of cement exported in ASEAN dropped to X tons, shrinking by -6.7% compared with 2021 figures. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 38%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, cement pipe exports declined markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 57% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted significantly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Malaysia was the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which resulted at 74% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons), mixing up a 20% share of total exports. Thailand (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Malaysia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of pipes and other articles of cement. At the same time, Indonesia (+30.0%) and Vietnam (+19.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +30.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Thailand (-3.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Vietnam (+16 p.p.) and Indonesia (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Thailand and Malaysia saw its share reduced by -2.3% and -15.6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Vietnam ($X) remains the largest cement pipe supplier in ASEAN, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 28% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 6% share.
In Vietnam, cement pipe exports expanded at an average annual rate of +21.8% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Malaysia (+2.3% per year) and Thailand (+16.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, declining by -9.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 43%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+20.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cement Pipe Imports
Imports in ASEAN
In 2022, approx. X tons of pipes and other articles of cement were imported in ASEAN; picking up by 11% compared with the previous year's figure. Total imports indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +66.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 49%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cement pipe imports rose slightly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 29%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Singapore (X tons) represented the largest importer of pipes and other articles of cement, mixing up 68% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Indonesia (X tons), committing a 26% share of total imports. Malaysia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Singapore decreased at an average annual rate of -1.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Indonesia (+59.7%) and Malaysia (+28.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +59.7% from 2012-2022. While the share of Indonesia (+25 p.p.) and Malaysia (+3.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Singapore (-26.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Singapore ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported pipes and other articles of cement in ASEAN, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 22% share of total imports.
In Singapore, cement pipe imports shrank by an average annual rate of -3.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (+36.0% per year) and Indonesia (+31.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -8.7% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 23%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+5.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
