The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, plantain exports shrank notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Indonesia was the key exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Cambodia (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons), together committing a X% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to plantain exports from Indonesia stood at X%. At the same time, Cambodia (X.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cambodia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of X.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, the Philippines (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Export Prices by Country

The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a pronounced slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by X%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced sharply in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (X%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in ASEAN

In 2022, plantain imports in ASEAN dropped to X tons, declining by X% on the year before. Overall, imports, however, saw a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, plantain imports rose significantly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by X%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Brunei Darussalam dominates imports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near X% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Singapore (X tons), creating a X% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to plantain imports into Brunei Darussalam stood at X%. At the same time, Singapore (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Singapore emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Brunei Darussalam and Singapore increased by X and X percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
