In 2022, overseas shipments of plastic baths, shower-baths, sinks and wash-basins were finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports enjoyed a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 195% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, plastic bath or sink exports rose to $X in 2022. Overall, exports saw a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 76%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

The Philippines was the key exporting country with an export of about X units, which amounted to 46% of total exports. Thailand (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 20% share, followed by Vietnam (16%) and Malaysia (12%). The following exporters - Indonesia (X units) and Singapore (X units) - together made up 6.4% of total exports.

Exports from the Philippines increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Vietnam (+13.4%), Indonesia (+8.7%), Thailand (+7.9%) and Malaysia (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +13.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Singapore (-4.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Vietnam (+7.2 p.p.), the Philippines (+2.5 p.p.) and Thailand (+2.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Singapore and Malaysia saw its share reduced by -5% and -7.5% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the Philippines ($X) remains the largest plastic bath or sink supplier in ASEAN, comprising 49% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($X), with a 23% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 16% share.

In the Philippines, plastic bath or sink exports increased at an average annual rate of +13.6% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Thailand (+6.8% per year) and Vietnam (+14.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, waning by -2% against the previous year. Export price indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, plastic bath or sink export price increased by +87.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 70%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per unit), while Malaysia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, overseas purchases of plastic baths, shower-baths, sinks and wash-basins increased by 3.1% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Total imports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +61.4% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 57%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, plastic bath or sink imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +50.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. Indonesia (X units) and Thailand (X units) represented roughly 59% of total imports in 2022. Vietnam (X units) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Malaysia (X units), Singapore (X units) and the Philippines (X units). All these countries together held approx. 37% share of total imports. Lao People's Democratic Republic (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Lao People's Democratic Republic (with a CAGR of +23.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest plastic bath or sink importing markets in ASEAN were Indonesia ($X), Thailand ($X) and Vietnam ($X), with a combined 71% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines and Lao People's Democratic Republic, which together accounted for a further 27%.

Among the main importing countries, Lao People's Democratic Republic, with a CAGR of +15.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 8.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 9.3%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
