Malaysia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the plastic lavatory seats and covers exports, with a CAGR of +28.8% from 2012 to 2021. After three years of decline, purchases abroad of plastic lavatory seats and covers increased by 12% to X units in 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Thailand was the main importing country with an import of about X units, which finished at 50% of total imports. Indonesia (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 17% share, followed by Vietnam (15%), the Philippines (6.9%) and Malaysia (6.3%). Singapore (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to plastic lavatory seat imports into Thailand stood at +9.2%. At the same time, Vietnam (+9.4%), Indonesia (+2.9%) and Singapore (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +9.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Malaysia (-5.4%) and the Philippines (-8.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Thailand (+18 p.p.) and Vietnam (+5.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Malaysia and the Philippines saw its share reduced by -8.2% and -13.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Thailand ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported plastic lavatory seats and covers in ASEAN, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Thailand totaled +8.7%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (+13.4% per year) and Indonesia (+3.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per unit in 2021, picking up by 6.3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 14% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
