The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +101.6% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, imports of plastic plates, sheets, film, foil and strip soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +115.4% against 2012 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Vietnam (X tons), distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), Thailand (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) were the largest importers of plastic plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, together achieving 94% of total imports. Myanmar (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Myanmar (with a CAGR of +19.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported plastic plates, sheets, film, foil and strip in ASEAN, comprising 34% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Indonesia ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 15% share.
