In 2021, after three years of growth, there was decline in shipments abroad of plastics household articles and toilet articles, when their volume decreased by -4.8% to X tons. Total exports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +51.8% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 14%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, plastic household ware exports rose remarkably to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -1.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 29% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

The biggest shipments were from Vietnam (X tons), Thailand (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons), together finishing at 90% of total export. It was distantly followed by Indonesia (X tons), generating a 5.8% share of total exports. Singapore (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the Philippines (with a CAGR of +19.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest plastic household ware supplying countries in ASEAN were Vietnam ($X), Thailand ($X) and the Philippines ($X), together accounting for 75% of total exports.

The Philippines, with a CAGR of +24.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 18% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+7.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of plastics household articles and toilet articles, when their volume increased by 25% to X tons. Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, plastic household ware imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 25%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the Philippines (X tons), distantly followed by Indonesia (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Cambodia (X tons) represented the major importers of plastics household articles and toilet articles, together mixing up 92% of total imports. Vietnam (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Cambodia (with a CAGR of +26.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest plastic household ware importing markets in ASEAN were Singapore ($X), the Philippines ($X) and Indonesia ($X), with a combined 57% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia and Vietnam, which together accounted for a further 38%.

Cambodia, with a CAGR of +31.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -2.8% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 37%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the Philippines ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
