Playing cards exports skyrocketed to X tons in 2022, picking up by 29% against the previous year's figure. Overall, exports recorded resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 146% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, playing cards exports expanded slightly to $X in 2022. In general, exports enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 190%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Singapore prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 88% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons), achieving a 6.4% share of total exports. The following exporters - Vietnam (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) - together made up 5.6% of total exports.
Singapore was also the fastest-growing in terms of the playing cards exports, with a CAGR of +18.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Vietnam (+18.0%), Malaysia (+13.1%) and Indonesia (+4.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Singapore (+11 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Malaysia and Indonesia saw its share reduced by -2.4% and -3.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the largest playing cards supplier in ASEAN, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 7.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 2.8% share.
In Singapore, playing cards exports increased at an average annual rate of +23.4% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (+22.6% per year) and Vietnam (+22.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -21% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a measured increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 81%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell markedly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+9.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in ASEAN
In 2022, supplies from abroad of playing cards increased by 3.5% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports recorded a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 67%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, playing cards imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 97% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Indonesia dominates imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 85% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Singapore (X tons), creating a 7.3% share of total imports. The Philippines (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
Indonesia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the playing cards imports, with a CAGR of +16.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Thailand (+12.7%) and the Philippines (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Singapore (-4.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Indonesia increased by +45 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Singapore ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported playing cards in ASEAN, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Philippines ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 12% share.
In Singapore, playing cards imports expanded at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Philippines (+12.1% per year) and Indonesia (+10.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a abrupt downturn. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
