In value terms, Malaysia ($X) remains the largest power tool supplier in ASEAN, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($X), with a 16% share of total exports.

In Malaysia, power tool exports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Thailand (+33.0% per year) and Singapore (+0.0% per year).

Imports by Country

Thailand (X units) and Singapore (X units) represented roughly 55% of total imports in 2021. Malaysia (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 15% share, followed by Indonesia (9.9%), the Philippines (9.7%) and Vietnam (5.8%). Myanmar (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Myanmar (with a CAGR of +51.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Indonesia ($X), Thailand ($X) and Malaysia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 66% of total imports. These countries were followed by Vietnam, Singapore, the Philippines and Myanmar, which together accounted for a further 34%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Myanmar, with a CAGR of +13.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, falling by -12.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 7.8%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per unit), while Myanmar ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
