The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the production volume increased by 36%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prepared or preserved crab meat exports rose notably to X tons in 2021, growing by 14% against 2020. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, prepared or preserved crab meat exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a strong increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Indonesia represented the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 59% of total exports. Vietnam (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 18% share, followed by the Philippines (15%) and Thailand (5.9%). Malaysia (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.
Exports from Indonesia increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Philippines (+8.0%) and Malaysia (+3.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +8.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Vietnam (-1.7%) and Thailand (-9.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Indonesia (+18 p.p.) and the Philippines (+5.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Vietnam (-8.9 p.p.) and Thailand (-12.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Indonesia ($X) remains the largest prepared or preserved crab meat supplier in ASEAN, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Philippines ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Indonesia stood at +14.4%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Philippines (+18.0% per year) and Vietnam (+0.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 59% against the previous year. Export price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+9.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Prepared Or Preserved Crab Meat
Imports in ASEAN
After six years of decline, supplies from abroad of prepared or preserved crab meat increased by 15% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a perceptible decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 97% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, prepared or preserved crab meat imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports enjoyed pronounced growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 78%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the six major importers of prepared or preserved crab meat, namely Brunei Darussalam, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Vietnam (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Brunei Darussalam (with a CAGR of +33.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest prepared or preserved crab meat importing markets in ASEAN were Indonesia ($X), Singapore ($X) and Thailand ($X), together accounting for 79% of total imports. Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines, Malaysia and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Brunei Darussalam, with a CAGR of +28.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 34% against the previous year. Import price indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, prepared or preserved crab meat import price increased by +128.7% against 2014 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
