In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. In value terms, preserved swine meat production reduced slightly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by 10%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in ASEAN
In 2021, exports of prepared or preserved hams and cuts of swine meat in ASEAN reduced to X tons, with a decrease of -8.3% on the previous year. Overall, exports recorded a slight decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 121% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, preserved swine meat exports declined to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 80% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Thailand represented the key exporter of prepared or preserved hams and cuts of swine meat in ASEAN, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 68% of total exports in 2021. The Philippines (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 19% share, followed by Vietnam (8.4%). Singapore (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to preserved swine meat exports from Thailand stood at -3.2%. At the same time, Vietnam (+26.4%) and Singapore (+9.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +26.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the Philippines (-2.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Vietnam (+7.5 p.p.) and Singapore (+2.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Thailand saw its share reduced by -9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest preserved swine meat supplier in ASEAN, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Philippines ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Singapore, with an 8.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Thailand stood at -4.1%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Philippines (-2.7% per year) and Singapore (+2.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 6.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 12% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the Philippines ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+5.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Preserved Swine Meat Imports
Imports in ASEAN
Preserved swine meat imports skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, growing by 22% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, saw a abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 36%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, preserved swine meat imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The Philippines was the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which recorded 51% of total imports. Singapore (X tons) took a 23% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Vietnam (8.7%). Cambodia (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Brunei Darussalam (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.
Imports into the Philippines decreased at an average annual rate of -9.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Cambodia (+70.2%) and Vietnam (+12.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cambodia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +70.2% from 2012-2021. Malaysia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Singapore (-4.8%), Thailand (-6.9%) and Brunei Darussalam (-12.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Vietnam (+7.1 p.p.), Cambodia (+4.2 p.p.), Singapore (+3.5 p.p.) and Malaysia (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Brunei Darussalam and the Philippines saw its share reduced by -2.1% and -15.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest preserved swine meat importing markets in ASEAN were Singapore ($X), the Philippines ($X) and Vietnam ($X), with a combined 78% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand and Brunei Darussalam, which together accounted for a further 19%.
Cambodia, with a CAGR of +61.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, falling by -3.5% against the previous year. Import price indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, preserved swine meat import price increased by +36.3% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 88%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.
