The ASEAN printing components market dropped to $X in 2022, waning by -6.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a perceptible reduction. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.
Printing Components Production in ASEAN
In value terms, printing components production declined to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production continues to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the production volume increased by 13% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in ASEAN
Printing components exports fell modestly to X tons in 2022, reducing by -4.7% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, exports recorded a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 65% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, printing components exports totaled $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 99% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Malaysia was the key exporter of printing components in ASEAN, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was near 69% of total exports in 2022. Singapore (X tons) took a 10% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Thailand (8.8%) and Vietnam (4.9%). Indonesia (X tons) and Myanmar (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.
Exports from Malaysia decreased at an average annual rate of -5.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Myanmar (+182.8%), Vietnam (+10.7%) and Thailand (+4.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Myanmar emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +182.8% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Indonesia (-2.3%) and Singapore (-8.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Thailand (+5.3 p.p.), Vietnam (+3.7 p.p.) and Myanmar (+3.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Malaysia (-5.9 p.p.) and Singapore (-6.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Malaysia ($X) remains the largest printing components supplier in ASEAN, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Singapore ($X), with a 9.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with an 8.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Malaysia was relatively modest. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Singapore (-7.6% per year) and Thailand (-2.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, growing by 7.5% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 25%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+11.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Printing Components Imports
Imports in ASEAN
Printing components imports fell to X tons in 2022, which is down by -9.5% compared with the year before. Overall, imports showed a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 28%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, printing components imports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a slight expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 16%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
Imports by Country
Malaysia was the key importer of printing components in ASEAN, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was approx. 53% of total imports in 2022. Thailand (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Vietnam (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 45% share of total imports.
Malaysia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of printing components. At the same time, Thailand (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +1.9% from 2012-2022. Vietnam experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Singapore (-4.0%), Indonesia (-6.0%) and the Philippines (-7.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Malaysia (+5.6 p.p.), Thailand (+3.7 p.p.) and Vietnam (+2.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Singapore (-1.6 p.p.), the Philippines (-4.2 p.p.) and Indonesia (-6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, the largest printing components importing markets in ASEAN were Malaysia ($X), Thailand ($X) and Indonesia ($X), together comprising 66% of total imports. Vietnam, the Philippines and Singapore lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.
Vietnam, with a CAGR of +7.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -4.1% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by 17%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+7.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
