Quicklime Market Size in ASEAN

The ASEAN quicklime market reached $X in 2022, surging by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a perceptible decrease. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Quicklime Production in ASEAN

In value terms, quicklime production totaled $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the production volume increased by 5.8%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Quicklime Exports

Exports in ASEAN

In 2022, approx. X tons of quicklime were exported in ASEAN; waning by -2.5% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 14% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, quicklime exports reduced modestly to $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

The biggest shipments were from Malaysia (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Thailand (X tons), together amounting to 99% of total export.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Malaysia (with a CAGR of +11.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, the largest quicklime supplying countries in ASEAN were Vietnam ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Thailand ($X), together comprising 99% of total exports.

Malaysia, with a CAGR of +9.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2022, approximately equating the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 29% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+3.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Quicklime Imports

Imports in ASEAN

In 2022, overseas purchases of quicklime increased by 17% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Total imports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +17.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, quicklime imports surged to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +29.1% against 2018 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Indonesia (X tons) was the major importer of quicklime, constituting 70% of total imports. The Philippines (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Singapore (7.6%) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (5.2%). Cambodia (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Indonesia increased at an average annual rate of +12.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Cambodia (+31.8%), Malaysia (+4.7%) and the Philippines (+1.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cambodia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +31.8% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Lao People's Democratic Republic (-4.7%) and Singapore (-12.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Indonesia and Cambodia increased by +40 and +2.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Indonesia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported quicklime in ASEAN, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Philippines ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 7.5% share.

In Indonesia, quicklime imports expanded at an average annual rate of +13.2% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Philippines (+3.4% per year) and Singapore (-11.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 12% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cambodia (+5.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
