In 2021, the ASEAN radar apparatus market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year declining trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a noticeable downturn. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, the amount of radar apparatus exported in ASEAN expanded modestly to X tons, rising by 4% on the previous year. In general, exports continue to indicate a measured expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

In value terms, radar apparatus exports expanded slightly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports enjoyed a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 48% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Singapore dominates exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 93% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X tons), comprising a 5% share of total exports.

Singapore was also the fastest-growing in terms of the radar apparatus exports, with a CAGR of +23.3% from 2012 to 2021. Thailand (-15.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Singapore (+74 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Thailand saw its share reduced by -25.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the largest radar apparatus supplier in ASEAN, comprising 94% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 2.6% share of total exports.

In Singapore, radar apparatus exports expanded at an average annual rate of +20.2% over the period from 2012-2021.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -2.4% against the previous year. Export price indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, radar apparatus export price decreased by -34.0% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 26%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Thailand stood at $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (-2.6%).

Imports in ASEAN

In 2021, supplies from abroad of radar apparatus increased by 47% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, imports continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 79%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, radar apparatus imports expanded modestly to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +69.9% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 46% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Thailand (X tons), distantly followed by Indonesia (X tons), Myanmar (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) represented the key importers of radar apparatus, together comprising 95% of total imports. Malaysia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by the Philippines (with a CAGR of +23.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Thailand ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Singapore ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 76% of total imports. The Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia and Myanmar lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.

The Philippines, with a CAGR of +19.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -30.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 20%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+7.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
