In 2021, the ASEAN radio navigation apparatus market decreased by -6.4% to $X, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a noticeable decrease. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

Exports in ASEAN

In 2021, the amount of radio navigational aid apparatus exported in ASEAN surged to X tons, with an increase of 40% compared with 2020 figures. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, radio navigation apparatus exports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -28.4% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Malaysia was the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 59% of total exports. Vietnam (X tons) held a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Indonesia (9.5%) and the Philippines (7.2%). The following exporters - Singapore (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) - each accounted for a 5.3% share of total exports.

Exports from Malaysia increased at an average annual rate of +24.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Vietnam (+42.7%) and the Philippines (+5.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +42.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Singapore (-10.8%), Indonesia (-14.7%) and Thailand (-26.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Malaysia (+51 p.p.), Vietnam (+18 p.p.) and the Philippines (+2.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand saw its share reduced by -4.7%, -29.5% and -37.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X) remains the largest radio navigation apparatus supplier in ASEAN, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 24% share of total exports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 16% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Malaysia stood at +10.6%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Vietnam (+21.6% per year) and Singapore (+8.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, waning by -19.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, enjoyed a pronounced expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 24%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+21.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in ASEAN

In 2021, the amount of radio navigational aid apparatus imported in ASEAN reached X tons, picking up by 2.9% on the year before. Total imports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -17.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 76% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, radio navigation apparatus imports contracted to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -31.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 113%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Vietnam (X tons), distantly followed by Indonesia (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) were the largest importers of radio navigational aid apparatus, together achieving 97% of total imports. Brunei Darussalam (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +35.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Singapore ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Malaysia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 76% of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +25.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -12.2% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 40%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Brunei Darussalam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
