Vehicle Radio Market Size in ASEAN

For the third consecutive year, the ASEAN vehicle radio market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 2.7% to $X in 2022. The total consumption indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +84.0% against 2014 indices. The level of consumption peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Vehicle Radio Production in ASEAN

In value terms, vehicle radio production totaled $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -0.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 28%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Exports in ASEAN

Vehicle radio exports fell to X units in 2022, waning by -10.3% against the year before. Overall, exports saw a abrupt descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 44% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, vehicle radio exports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 50%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Thailand was the key exporting country with an export of about X units, which accounted for 69% of total exports. Malaysia (X units) held a 24% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Indonesia (4.9%).

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to vehicle radio exports from Thailand stood at -3.5%. At the same time, Indonesia (+23.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +23.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Malaysia (-14.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Thailand and Indonesia increased by +27 and +4.6 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest vehicle radio supplier in ASEAN, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with a 23% share of total exports.

In Thailand, vehicle radio exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Malaysia (-12.2% per year) and Indonesia (+40.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per unit in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed temperate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 61% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per unit), while Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+13.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in ASEAN

In 2022, imports of radio receivers for motor vehicles in ASEAN declined to X units, waning by -13% against 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, vehicle radio imports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a slight slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Thailand (X units) and Indonesia (X units) represented roughly 56% of total imports in 2022. Vietnam (X units) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Malaysia (X units) and the Philippines (X units). All these countries together held approx. 40% share of total imports. Singapore (X units) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +14.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

In value terms, the largest vehicle radio importing markets in ASEAN were Indonesia ($X), Thailand ($X) and Vietnam ($X), together comprising 82% of total imports.

Vietnam, with a CAGR of +16.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, surging by 5.9% against the previous year. Import price indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, vehicle radio import price increased by +71.2% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the import price increased by 24% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per unit), while Malaysia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
