The ASEAN market for raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries rose sharply to $X in 2022, increasing by 5.3% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry production reached $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production continues to indicate resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 91% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The country with the largest volume of raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry production was Vietnam (X tons), accounting for 99.9% of total volume.

In Vietnam, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry production plunged by an average annual rate of -1.7% over the period from 2012-2022.

The average raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry yield was estimated at X tons per ha in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, the yield, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 0.4% against the previous year. The level of yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the yield remained at a lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

The raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry harvested area totaled X ha in 2022, almost unchanged from 2021 figures. In general, the harvested area, however, continues to indicate a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the harvested area increased by 5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry production reached the maximum at X ha in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the harvested area failed to regain momentum.

Exports in ASEAN

In 2022, shipments abroad of raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries increased by 138% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 334% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry exports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, exports posted a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 131%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Singapore represented the main exporter of raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries in ASEAN, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was approx. 75% of total exports in 2022. Indonesia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Thailand (X tons). All these countries together took near 22% share of total exports. Malaysia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Singapore was also the fastest-growing in terms of the raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries exports, with a CAGR of +26.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Malaysia (+14.9%), Indonesia (+12.4%) and Thailand (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Singapore (+41 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Indonesia and Thailand saw its share reduced by -4.8% and -32.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the largest raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry supplier in ASEAN, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Indonesia ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 6% share.

In Singapore, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry exports expanded at an average annual rate of +24.6% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Indonesia (+39.6% per year) and Thailand (+1.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -36.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a pronounced expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 98%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined notably in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+24.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in ASEAN

In 2022, the amount of raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries imported in ASEAN amounted to X tons, approximately reflecting 2021. In general, imports saw prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

In value terms, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry imports stood at $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 41%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Singapore (X tons) represented the major importer of raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries, creating 55% of total imports. Malaysia (X tons) took a 21% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Thailand (15%) and Vietnam (5.9%). Indonesia (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry imports into Singapore stood at +13.4%. At the same time, Vietnam (+59.1%), Thailand (+30.5%), Malaysia (+18.1%) and Indonesia (+12.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +59.1% from 2012-2022. Thailand (+10 p.p.), Vietnam (+5.6 p.p.) and Malaysia (+3.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Singapore saw its share reduced by -12.5% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries in ASEAN, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 14% share.

In Singapore, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry imports expanded at an average annual rate of +13.0% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+34.2% per year) and Malaysia (+29.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, rising by 4.5% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%.
