Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 71%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, exports of refractory products of siliceous or diatomite earths shrank to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, posted a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 126%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

Exports by Country

The Philippines represented the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which reached 72% of total exports. Indonesia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 10% share, followed by Singapore (6.8%) and Thailand (5.9%). Malaysia (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

The Philippines was also the fastest-growing in terms of the refractory products of siliceous or diatomite earths exports, with a CAGR of +32.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Malaysia (+4.0%), Indonesia (+1.8%) and Singapore (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Thailand (-2.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the Philippines increased by +53 percentage points.

In value terms, the Philippines ($X) remains the largest refractory products of siliceous or diatomite earths supplier in ASEAN, comprising 92% of total exports. Export price indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, export price for refractory products of siliceous or diatomite earths increased by +48.2% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in ASEAN

In 2021, approx. X tons of refractory products of siliceous or diatomite earths were imported in ASEAN; rising by 41% compared with 2020 figures. Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +75.3% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 53% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Total imports indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +70.9% against 2016 indices. Over the period under review, imports of attained the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Malaysia (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) represented roughly 63% of total imports in 2021. Vietnam (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 14% share, followed by Singapore (13%). The following importers - Myanmar (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) - together made up 6.6% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +18.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X), Singapore ($X) and the Philippines ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 74% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar and Lao People's Democratic Republic, which together accounted for a further 23%.

Vietnam, with a CAGR of +16.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, approximately reflecting the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 28%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
