The total production indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -0.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in ASEAN

In 2022, shipments abroad of refrigerated show-caseses increased by 17% to X units, rising for the fourth year in a row after two years of decline. Total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +95.1% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 46%. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, refrigerated show-cases exports rose modestly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Thailand (X units) represented the key exporter of refrigerated show-caseses, achieving 74% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X units), creating a 20% share of total exports. Singapore (X units) and Vietnam (X units) took a little share of total exports.

Exports from Thailand increased at an average annual rate of +11.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Vietnam (+27.7%) and Malaysia (+7.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +27.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Singapore (-5.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam increased by +29, +1.8 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest refrigerated show-cases supplier in ASEAN, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Thailand stood at +2.2%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (+1.8% per year) and Vietnam (+26.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -10.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per unit), while Malaysia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (-1.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in ASEAN

Refrigerated show-cases imports expanded notably to X units in 2022, growing by 12% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports posted a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, refrigerated show-cases imports rose slightly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +116.6% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The Philippines (X units), Indonesia (X units), Thailand (X units), Malaysia (X units), Vietnam (X units) and Singapore (X units) represented roughly 95% of total imports in 2022. Myanmar (X units) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Myanmar (with a CAGR of +42.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Indonesia ($X), the Philippines ($X) and Vietnam ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 63% of total imports. Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Myanmar lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 34%.

Myanmar, with a CAGR of +25.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per unit in 2022, falling by -7.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 11% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per unit), while Myanmar ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+4.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
