Total exports indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -18.0% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 69% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, ethylene polymer rigid pipes exports totaled $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 21%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Thailand was the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which amounted to 64% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons), creating a 30% share of total exports. Vietnam (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Thailand was also the fastest-growing in terms of the rigid tubes, pipes and hoses of polymers of ethylene exports, with a CAGR of +6.0% from 2012 to 2021. Malaysia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Vietnam (-13.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -4.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, overseas purchases of rigid tubes, pipes and hoses of polymers of ethylene decreased by -20.8% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, recorded buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 47%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

In value terms, ethylene polymer rigid pipes imports fell remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

Imports by Country

The Philippines represented the largest importing country with an import of about X tons, which accounted for 38% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Indonesia (X tons), Cambodia (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) and Myanmar (X tons), together making up a 55% share of total imports.

Imports into the Philippines increased at an average annual rate of +27.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Myanmar (+41.8%), Cambodia (+24.3%), Thailand (+15.7%) and Indonesia (+12.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Myanmar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +41.8% from 2012-2021. Malaysia and Lao People's Democratic Republic experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Singapore (-4.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Philippines (+28 p.p.), Cambodia (+7.6 p.p.), Myanmar (+4.2 p.p.), Thailand (+2.1 p.p.) and Indonesia (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Malaysia (-6.9 p.p.), Lao People's Democratic Republic (-7.7 p.p.) and Singapore (-22.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the Philippines ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported rigid tubes, pipes and hoses of polymers of ethylene in ASEAN, comprising 30% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Indonesia ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in the Philippines totaled +25.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Indonesia (+6.3% per year) and Singapore (+0.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -27.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 31% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+4.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
