The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, roasted molybdenum ores and concentrates exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 132% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Thailand (X tons) was the key exporter of roasted molybdenum ores and concentrateses, mixing up 62% of total exports. Vietnam (X tons) took a 21% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Malaysia (17%).

Exports from Thailand increased at an average annual rate of +12.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Malaysia (+25.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Malaysia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +25.7% from 2012-2021. Vietnam experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Thailand (+13 p.p.) and Malaysia (+12 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Vietnam saw its share reduced by -24.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest roasted molybdenum ores and concentrates supplier in ASEAN, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($X), with a 24% share of total exports.

In Thailand, roasted molybdenum ores and concentrates exports increased at an average annual rate of +28.7% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Vietnam (+8.1% per year) and Malaysia (+29.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 78% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw resilient growth. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+14.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of roasted molybdenum ores and concentrateses, when their volume decreased by -64.5% to X tons. In general, imports faced a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 189%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, roasted molybdenum ores and concentrates imports rose remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 227% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Malaysia (X tons) was the major importer of roasted molybdenum ores and concentrateses, committing 59% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X tons), generating a 37% share of total imports. The following importers - Singapore (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) - each recorded a 3.5% share of total imports.
