The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 278% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then fell markedly in the following year.

Exports by Country

The shipments of the one major exporters of root or tuber harvesting machines, namely Thailand, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

Thailand was also the fastest-growing in terms of the root or tuber harvesting machines exports, with a CAGR of +20.9% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) also remains the largest harvesting machinery supplier in ASEAN.

In Thailand, harvesting machinery exports increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the period from 2012-2021.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, declining by -56.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Thailand.

In 2021, approx. X units of root or tuber harvesting machines were imported in ASEAN; increasing by 5% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports posted a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 100%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, harvesting machinery imports reduced markedly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a pronounced setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 402%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Thailand represented the key importing country with an import of about X units, which finished at 48% of total imports. Cambodia (X units) took a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Indonesia (14%), Vietnam (14%), Malaysia (4.8%) and the Philippines (4.8%).

Thailand was also the fastest-growing in terms of the root or tuber harvesting machines imports, with a CAGR of +29.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Indonesia (+13.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Vietnam, Malaysia and Cambodia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the Philippines (-7.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Thailand and Indonesia increased by +39 and +5.2 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Cambodia ($X), the Philippines ($X) and Vietnam ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 75% of total imports.

Vietnam, with a CAGR of +7.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per unit in 2021, with a decrease of -35.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 151% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per unit), while Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+9.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
