The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -12.8% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 98% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, sailboat exports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 136%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Thailand dominates exports structure, resulting at X units, which was near 83% of total exports in 2021. Singapore (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 8.7% share, followed by Vietnam (6.2%). Indonesia (X units) took a minor share of total exports.
Thailand was also the fastest-growing in terms of the sailboats for pleasure or sports, with or without auxiliary motor exports, with a CAGR of +8.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Vietnam (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Indonesia (-9.3%) and Singapore (-13.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Thailand increased by +37 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Thailand ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Singapore ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 96% of total exports.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +13.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 22% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per unit), while Singapore ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+10.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in ASEAN
In 2021, purchases abroad of sailboats for pleasure or sports, with or without auxiliary motor decreased by -52.8% to X units, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports recorded a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 273%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, sailboat imports declined notably to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 87%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Thailand (X units) and Singapore (X units) represented roughly 56% of total imports in 2021. Vietnam (X units) held a 17% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Malaysia (9.3%), the Philippines (7.7%) and Indonesia (5.5%). Myanmar (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the Philippines (with a CAGR of +14.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
In value terms, Thailand ($X), Singapore ($X) and Malaysia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 93% share of total imports. The Philippines, Indonesia, Myanmar and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 5.6%.
In terms of the main importing countries, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +17.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a modest expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 126% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per unit), while Vietnam ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+8.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
