In 2021, after five years of decline, there was growth in the ASEAN self-propelled bulldozer market, when its value increased by 3.5% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a noticeable descent. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, self-propelled bulldozer production amounted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 3.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in ASEAN

In 2021, overseas shipments of self-propelled bulldozers and excavators were finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 119%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, self-propelled bulldozer exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, faced a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 102% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Singapore prevails in exports structure, resulting at X units, which was approx. 89% of total exports in 2021. Malaysia (X units), Indonesia (X units), Vietnam (X units) and Thailand (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Singapore experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of self-propelled bulldozers and excavators. At the same time, Vietnam (+19.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +19.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Indonesia (-3.4%), Malaysia (-3.5%) and Thailand (-12.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Singapore (+5.7 p.p.) and Vietnam (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Thailand (-3.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the largest self-propelled bulldozer supplier in ASEAN, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 9.7% share.

In Singapore, self-propelled bulldozer exports shrank by an average annual rate of -14.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Malaysia (+0.6% per year) and Indonesia (-5.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, approximately equating the previous year. In general, the export price showed a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per unit), while Singapore ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in ASEAN

After three years of decline, supplies from abroad of self-propelled bulldozers and excavators increased by 29% to X units in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a noticeable downturn. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, self-propelled bulldozer imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

The Philippines represented the main importer of self-propelled bulldozers and excavators in ASEAN, with the volume of imports resulting at X units, which was approx. 39% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X units), Singapore (X units), Malaysia (X units), Myanmar (X units), Thailand (X units) and Cambodia (X units), together mixing up a 59% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +41.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported self-propelled bulldozers and excavators in ASEAN, comprising 45% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Singapore ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by the Philippines, with a 9.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Vietnam totaled +43.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Singapore (-13.2% per year) and the Philippines (-5.1% per year).

In 2021, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -9.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt downturn. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
