The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the production volume increased by 55%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

After three years of growth, shipments abroad of sheep, goat, swine or reptile leather, excluding chamois leather decreased by -15.3% to X tons in 2022. Total exports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 32%. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, exports of sheep, goat, swine or reptile leather, excluding chamois leather surged to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Thailand prevails in leather structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 87% of total exports in 2022. Cambodia (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) held a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to sheep, goat, swine or reptile leather exports from Thailand stood at +8.2%. At the same time, Cambodia (+59.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cambodia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +59.8% from 2012-2022. In value terms, Thailand ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Cambodia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 39% share of total exports.
Cambodia, with a CAGR of +61.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 42% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a perceptible slump. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+8.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in ASEAN
In 2022, approx. X tons of sheep, goat, swine or reptile leather, excluding chamois leather were imported in ASEAN; waning by -16.6% against the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 37%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell sharply in the following year.
In value terms, imports of sheep, goat, swine or reptile leather, excluding chamois leather dropped notably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 31%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Cambodia was the key importer of sheep, goat, swine or reptile leather, excluding chamois leather in ASEAN, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was near 52% of total imports in 2022. Vietnam (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Indonesia (X tons) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 39% share of total imports. The following importers - the Philippines (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) - together made up 7% of total imports.
Cambodia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the sheep, goat, swine or reptile leather, excluding chamois leather imports, with a CAGR of +27.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Lao People's Democratic Republic (+11.7%) and the Philippines (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Thailand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Vietnam (-4.4%) and Indonesia (-7.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Cambodia (+46 p.p.) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (+3.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Indonesia and Vietnam saw its share reduced by -15% and -25.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Vietnam ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sheep, goat, swine or reptile leather, excluding chamois leather in ASEAN, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Cambodia, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Vietnam amounted to -3.4%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+4.5% per year) and Cambodia (+5.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -13.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 7.5%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Cambodia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
