Plastic Support Market Size in ASEAN

The ASEAN plastic support market stood at $X in 2022, rising by 2.1% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, showed a mild contraction. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, plastic support production stood at $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw a slight contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 9.2% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.

Exports in ASEAN

In 2022, after six years of growth, there was decline in overseas shipments of spools, cops and similar supports of plastics, when their volume decreased by -2.9% to X tons. Total exports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +46.4% against 2014 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 12%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, plastic support exports rose slightly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +36.9% against 2014 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Thailand (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together making up 72% of total exports. Singapore (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Vietnam (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons). All these countries together held near 24% share of total exports. The Philippines (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +14.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest plastic support supplying countries in ASEAN were Thailand ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Singapore ($X), together accounting for 77% of total exports. Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +13.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 6% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 6.7%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+2.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in ASEAN

For the fifth consecutive year, ASEAN recorded growth in supplies from abroad of spools, cops and similar supports of plastics, which increased by 7.8% to X tons in 2022. Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +64.0% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, plastic support imports amounted to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +61.0% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the four major importers of spools, cops and similar supports of plastics, namely Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia, represented more than two-thirds of total import. It was distantly followed by the Philippines (X tons) and Singapore (X tons), together mixing up a 20% share of total imports. Myanmar (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Myanmar (with a CAGR of +32.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest plastic support importing markets in ASEAN were Thailand ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Vietnam ($X), with a combined 63% share of total imports. Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines and Myanmar lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 35%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Myanmar, with a CAGR of +19.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a slight contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 3%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+2.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
