Plastic Supports Market Size in ASEAN

The ASEAN plastic supports market dropped to $X in 2022, declining by -4.2% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, plastic supports production contracted modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +3.7% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in ASEAN

In 2022, exports of spools, cops, bobbins and similar supports of plastics in ASEAN contracted modestly to X tons, remaining constant against the previous year's figure. Total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +36.3% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 39%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

In value terms, plastic supports exports rose significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 45%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Malaysia (X tons) was the largest exporter of spools, cops, bobbins and similar supports of plastics, mixing up 45% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons), together making up a 51% share of total exports. The Philippines (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Indonesia (with a CAGR of +14.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest plastic supports supplying countries in ASEAN were Thailand ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Singapore ($X), together accounting for 88% of total exports. Indonesia and the Philippines lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 9.5%.

Indonesia, with a CAGR of +18.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 14% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 15%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while the Philippines ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+9.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in ASEAN

After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of spools, cops, bobbins and similar supports of plastics decreased by -3.5% to X tons in 2022. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +5.1% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 67%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, plastic supports imports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 70% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Thailand (X tons) was the main importer of spools, cops, bobbins and similar supports of plastics, achieving 35% of total imports. Malaysia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 19% share, followed by Vietnam (18%), Singapore (13%) and Indonesia (12%). The Philippines (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +10.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported spools, cops, bobbins and similar supports of plastics in ASEAN, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 15% share.

In Thailand, plastic supports imports increased at an average annual rate of +13.1% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Vietnam (+12.1% per year) and Malaysia (+4.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 11% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Indonesia ($X per ton) and Singapore ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) and the Philippines ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
