Over the period under review, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, straight saw blade exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced downturn. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Thailand was the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at 58% of total exports. Singapore (X tons) took a 20% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Vietnam (15%) and Malaysia (6.7%).
Exports from Thailand increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Vietnam (+69.3%) and Malaysia (+29.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +69.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Singapore (-10.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia increased by +15, +15 and +6 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, the largest straight saw blade supplying countries in ASEAN were Singapore ($X), Thailand ($X) and Vietnam ($X), with a combined 87% share of total exports.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +76.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 15% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 35% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+6.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in ASEAN
In 2021, imports of straight saw blades for working metal in ASEAN surged to X tons, increasing by 29% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 36% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, straight saw blade imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 34%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Thailand (X tons) represented the major importer of straight saw blades for working metal, committing 44% of total imports. Indonesia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Malaysia (X tons) and Singapore (X tons). All these countries together took near 51% share of total imports. Vietnam (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.
Thailand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of straight saw blades for working metal. At the same time, Indonesia (+13.3%) and Malaysia (+4.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +13.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Vietnam (-7.6%) and Singapore (-11.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, the largest straight saw blade importing markets in ASEAN were Thailand ($X), Singapore ($X) and Malaysia ($X), together comprising 77% of total imports. Indonesia and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.
Among the main importing countries, Indonesia, with a CAGR of +16.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -5.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
