Sugar Beet Market Size in ASEAN
The ASEAN sugar beet market dropped slightly to $X in 2022, falling by -1.7% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. From 2016 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.
The country with the largest volume of sugar beet production was Malaysia (X tons), accounting for 60% of total volume. Moreover, sugar beet production in Malaysia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Myanmar (X tons), twofold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in Malaysia stood at +1.0%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Myanmar (+0.8% per year) and Vietnam (+0.7% per year).

Exports in ASEAN
In 2022, shipments abroad of sugar beet increased by 3.5% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 176%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sugar beet exports expanded notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 112% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Vietnam (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) represented roughly 99% of total exports in 2022.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Malaysia (with a CAGR of -1.6%).
In value terms, Vietnam ($X) remains the largest sugar beet supplier in ASEAN, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 25% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Vietnam stood at -2.0%.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 3.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 283% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Malaysia stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (-0.3%).
Sugar Beet Imports
Imports in ASEAN
Sugar beet imports fell to X tons in 2022, shrinking by -5.7% on 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 202% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sugar beet imports fell modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 150% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Singapore prevails in imports structure, recording X tons, which was near 93% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons), creating a 6.6% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to sugar beet imports into Singapore stood at -3.4%. At the same time, Malaysia (+44.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Malaysia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +44.2% from 2012-2022. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 13%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Malaysia stood at $X per ton.
