The ASEAN sulphonamides market was estimated at $X in 2021, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last nine-year period. In 2021, the amount of sulphonamides exported in ASEAN skyrocketed to X tons, rising by 50% compared with 2020. Overall, exports, however, recorded a abrupt curtailment. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, sulphonamides exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, faced a abrupt setback. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Singapore represented the key exporter of sulphonamides in ASEAN, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was approx. 70% of total exports in 2021. Cambodia (X tons) held a 17% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Indonesia (13%).
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to sulphonamides exports from Singapore stood at -18.1%. At the same time, Cambodia (+23.4%) and Indonesia (+11.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cambodia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +23.4% from 2012-2021. Cambodia (+17 p.p.) and Indonesia (+12 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Singapore saw its share reduced by -29.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the largest sulphonamides supplier in ASEAN, comprising 97% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Cambodia ($X), with a 1.8% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Singapore amounted to -12.4%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Cambodia (+38.8% per year) and Indonesia (+12.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 4.9% against the previous year. Export price indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, sulphonamides export price decreased by -21.2% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 38%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cambodia (+12.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sulphonamides Imports
Imports in ASEAN
For the fourth consecutive year, ASEAN recorded growth in purchases abroad of sulphonamides, which increased by 8.2% to X tons in 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, sulphonamides imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 81% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Indonesia was the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which reached 56% of total imports. Vietnam (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 25% share, followed by Thailand (7.7%). Malaysia (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
Imports into Indonesia increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Vietnam (+10.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +10.6% from 2012-2021. The Philippines experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Thailand (-3.6%), Singapore (-4.3%) and Malaysia (-5.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Vietnam (+9.9 p.p.) and Indonesia (+9.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand saw its share reduced by -4.1%, -5.5% and -8.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest sulphonamides importing markets in ASEAN were Singapore ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Vietnam ($X), with a combined 75% share of total imports.
Vietnam, with a CAGR of +14.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, rising by 8.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the import price increased by 66%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+12.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
