Frozen Sweet Corn Market Size in ASEAN

In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in the ASEAN frozen sweet corn market, when its value decreased by -8.2% to $X. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then declined in the following year.

Frozen Sweet Corn Production in ASEAN

In value terms, frozen sweet corn production shrank to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2020, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2021 were Thailand (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons), with a combined 88% share of total production.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Thailand (with a CAGR of +4.0%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Frozen Sweet Corn Exports

Exports in ASEAN

In 2021, the amount of frozen sweet corn exported in ASEAN stood at X tons, surging by 3.9% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, exports saw a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 122% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, frozen sweet corn exports stood at $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 30%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Thailand represented the major exporter of frozen sweet corn in ASEAN, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 64% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons), together constituting a 31% share of total exports. Indonesia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Thailand was also the fastest-growing in terms of the frozen sweet corn exports, with a CAGR of +8.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Indonesia (+7.6%) and Vietnam (+5.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Malaysia (-5.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Thailand (+14 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Malaysia saw its share reduced by -14.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest frozen sweet corn supplier in ASEAN, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 29% share of total exports. It was followed by Malaysia, with an 8.2% share.

In Thailand, frozen sweet corn exports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Vietnam (+7.0% per year) and Malaysia (-10.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, remaining stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 118% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Vietnam ($X per ton) and Indonesia ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) and Malaysia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+1.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Frozen Sweet Corn Imports

Imports in ASEAN

After three years of growth, overseas purchases of frozen sweet corn decreased by -11.4% to X tons in 2021. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +35.6% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, frozen sweet corn imports shrank remarkably to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +25.6% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 51% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Singapore (X tons) represented the largest importer of frozen sweet corn, making up 39% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons), together committing a 52% share of total imports. Thailand (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported frozen sweet corn in ASEAN, comprising 40% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with an 18% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Singapore amounted to +8.7%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (+1.8% per year) and Vietnam (+20.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, waning by -10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 9.4% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
