Non-Chicken Table Egg Market Size in ASEAN

In 2021, the ASEAN non-chicken table egg market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-chicken table egg production soared to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production showed a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 95%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2021, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2021 were Thailand (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Myanmar (X tons), together accounting for 92% of total production.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of production, amongst the key producing countries, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of +2.9%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports in ASEAN

In 2021, shipments abroad of table eggs, excluding hen eggs decreased by -25.8% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. Overall, exports continue to indicate a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 48% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-chicken table egg exports contracted significantly to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 97%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Indonesia (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together committing 94% of total exports. Malaysia (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +12.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, the largest non-chicken table egg supplying countries in ASEAN were Indonesia ($X), Thailand ($X) and Malaysia ($X), together accounting for 97% of total exports.

Indonesia, with a CAGR of +24.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -6.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the export price increased by 51%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in ASEAN

In 2021, supplies from abroad of table eggs, excluding hen eggs was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. In general, imports saw a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 315% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, non-chicken table egg imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 157% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Singapore dominates imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 81% of total imports in 2021. Malaysia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Brunei Darussalam (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 13% share of total imports. Myanmar (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-chicken table egg imports into Singapore stood at +9.7%. At the same time, Brunei Darussalam (+63.6%), Malaysia (+43.6%) and Myanmar (+18.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Brunei Darussalam emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +63.6% from 2012-2021. While the share of Malaysia (+7.4 p.p.), Brunei Darussalam (+5 p.p.) and Myanmar (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Singapore (-14.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported table eggs, excluding hen eggs in ASEAN, comprising 89% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Myanmar ($X), with a 5.6% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 1.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Singapore totaled +11.5%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Myanmar (+21.7% per year) and Malaysia (+8.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, rising by 88% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Myanmar ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
