Television Receiver Market Size in ASEAN

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in the ASEAN television receiver market, when its value decreased by -6.7% to $X. Overall, consumption showed a perceptible setback. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Television Receiver Production in ASEAN

In value terms, television receiver production amounted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production recorded a pronounced slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 3.8%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in ASEAN

After three years of growth, shipments abroad of television receivers decreased by -12.5% to X units in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 30% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, television receiver exports shrank to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 37% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then fell in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Vietnam (X units) was the main exporter of television receivers, constituting 48% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X units), Indonesia (X units), the Philippines (X units) and Malaysia (X units), together committing a 48% share of total exports. Singapore (X units) held a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to television receiver exports from Vietnam stood at +25.4%. At the same time, the Philippines (+148.4%), Singapore (+3.3%) and Thailand (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +148.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Indonesia (-5.9%) and Malaysia (-9.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Vietnam (+41 p.p.) and the Philippines (+9.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia saw its share reduced by -2.1%, -22% and -26.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Malaysia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 88% share of total exports. Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 12%.

The Philippines, with a CAGR of +106.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per unit in 2022, picking up by 3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per unit), while the Philippines ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+10.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Television Receiver Imports

Imports in ASEAN

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of television receivers decreased by -39.9% to X units in 2022. Total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2021, and then dropped notably in the following year.

In value terms, television receiver imports contracted to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 21% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Thailand (X units), distantly followed by Singapore (X units), Vietnam (X units), the Philippines (X units), Malaysia (X units) and Indonesia (X units) represented the main importers of television receivers, together committing 97% of total imports. Myanmar (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Myanmar (with a CAGR of +22.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest television receiver importing markets in ASEAN were Thailand ($X), Vietnam ($X) and the Philippines ($X), together accounting for 60% of total imports. Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Myanmar lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 39%.

Malaysia, with a CAGR of +17.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, growing by 52% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per unit), while Myanmar ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
